Do you exist in photos?
PHOTO SESSIONS
Most people I meet answer this question with NO, and yet it is so important to have photographs of ourselves and our loved ones, to keep as memories for decades, if not centuries to come. We all love looking through our parents and grand-parents old photographs and hearing the stories behind them. It’s time we start to create a collection of memories for our own children, grandchildren and loved ones.
A client of mine recently lost her dad. A few days after his passing she posted on Facebook, that they couldn’t find any photos of him. They just didn’t exist… This really bothered me and got me thinking, if something was to happen to me tomorrow would my family have photos of me they would cherish?
I have to admit, the answer is no! Apart from the odd dodgy selfie and photographs of my horse and me competing, I do not exist in photos between the age of 17 until our wedding in 2016. That is nearly 20 years of my life, in which I did my best to avoid being in front of the camera.
So last year I decided to change that and I asked my dear friend and fellow photographer Kerstin Grünling to take photos of my horse Sam and me. While I have many photos of him, I didn’t really have any with him. I’m delighted with the results from our photo session and I know you will be as well!
Why do I feel so strongly about this?
I think it’s important to see your life story unfold, see yourself grow throughout life and fall in love with yourself again! We are all too critical about ourselves, we don’t like our weight, we don’t like our features, we think we’re too old, we’re not photogenic and would rather just have photos of the kids and/or pets instead. Believe me when I say, I’ve been there!
Please don’t listen to that voice putting doubts in your head! You are good enough to be in a family portrait. You are good enough to be photographed with your kids and pets. You need to exist in photographs. You are valuable and deserve to be remembered. Celebrate your life! Enjoy the experience!
My job, as a professional photographer, is to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera, guide you and take the most beautiful photographs of yourself and your family – including the furry friends, so that you can cherish them for the rest of your life.
