Keeping your business photos up to date
A journey with Isabel Lockhart, Legacy Celebrant
One of the greatest joys of my work as a brand and business photographer is seeing my clients’ journeys unfold – their growth, transformation, and success. Isabel Lockhart, the one and only Legacy Celebrant, has been on an inspiring journey, and I’ve been lucky enough to capture every step of it.
Isabel recently reached out reflecting on our journey together:
“I was looking through the brand photo sessions we’ve done over the years, and wow, I’ve changed so much!”
She attached a few images from our sessions, and it was incredible to see how her personal style, confidence, and brand identity had evolved. It was a visual reminder of why keeping brand photos fresh and current is so essential.
Each brand photo session with Isabel has captured her growth, not just as a celebrant, but as a person and as a businesswoman. It’s proof that when you update your brand photos, you’re not just showcasing your business, you’re telling the world who you are today.
Q&A with Isabel: Insights on her growth and brand
What inspired you to become a Celebrant?
“After years in Social Care and attending funerals that didn’t reflect the deceased, I often thought, ‘I could do better than this.’ When my son, Ben passed and I experienced terrible service, I made up my mind: I would do better. That’s when I trained to become a Celebrant.”
How has your business evolved since you started?
“I initially focused on funerals, but when Denis and I got married, everything changed! Planning our wedding ignited a passion, and I expanded into weddings, vow renewals, naming ceremonies, and more.”
What were your thoughts before booking your first brand photo session?
“I met you online at a Network Northeast event. When your Colour and Image package popped up, I realised I wasn’t investing in myself or my business. Naming my business ‘Legacy’ is a tribute to Ben, who had an incredible work ethic. If he’d been self-employed, he’d have had professional images – and so should I.”
How have the brand shoots helped your business grow?
“The images truly reflect me and my brand. They’re not repetitive, so they keep my social media and marketing materials fresh. People compliment my wedding pack and expo folders all the time! They’re such a vital part of my business.”
Do you have a favourite moment from our shoots?
“Our first shoot at Migvie Kirk was unforgettable. It was freezing! Despite the cold, we laughed so much, even when I had to unfasten the clip on your camera belt because your hands were too cold to manage!”
What advice would you give to someone hesitant about brand and business photography?
“Get out of your own way! It’s an investment in more than just photos. You take the time to understand the brand with your questionnaire, which helps clients focus on their goals. Brand photography is not just a headshot – it’s your story.”
Has professional photography boosted your confidence?
“Absolutely. I’m much more comfortable in front of the camera, and that shines through – whether in brand images or wedding photos.”
What makes a great brand or business photo?
“One that captures the who, what, where, and most importantly, the why. One image you took featured my otter logo, and I used it in a presentation to explain its significance. A photographer needs to listen to the client’s goals, and you do that beautifully.”
In your opinion, why is it important to keep brand fresh and relevant?
“It’s about authenticity. I’ve met people who look nothing like their outdated LinkedIn photos. Your images should reflect who you are now, not who you were a decade ago.”
Is there a shoot or image that captures your essence?
“My favourite is the series at Douneside. The range of facial expressions was perfect for a video I created explaining my process, they told my story perfectly!”
So, to conclude… Your brand and business images aren’t just pretty pictures, they are a reflection of you. Over time, your business evolves, and so should your photos. Here’s why keeping them updated is crucial:
They reflect your growth by capturing your current energy, style, and professional vibe to connect authentically with your audience.
They help you stay relevant. Trends in brand and photography shift. Updated and current images keep you approachable and aligned with who you are today.
They build trust. Updated photos show you’re active, professional, and ready to serve your clients.
A question for you
