Working Labrador’s Aila and Laggan – Auchentore Gundogs
DOG AND EQUINE PHOTOGRAPHY
Entering the Kennel Club’s Dog Photographer of the Year competition last year, was one of my favourite personal projects – unfortunately, I didn’t win, but I most definitely had a lot of fun trying!
One of the categories I wanted to enter, was the Working Dog category. I love all of the working breeds – gorgeous dogs and so very photogenic! Within the working breeds, I have a big soft spot for Labrador’s – as I grew up with a black Lab called Candy.
Finding working dogs thankfully isn’t all that difficult in these parts of the world! I already had a connection to Auchentore Gundogs and was delighted that Kirsten and two of her Labradors were keen to get involved. Kirsten breeds Labradors and is also a fantastic dog trainer. (Check out the The Working Puppy Company for more info).
We arranged to meet at Glen Dye, a shooting estate near Banchory in Aberdeenshire, on what was meant to be a dry and lightly overcast day. However, the further out of town we drove – the thicker the snow got… We had a chat on the way, but decided to continue to Glen Dye in the hope the snow would stop eventually. It didn’t!
Thankfully, as a dog photographer, I am always prepared and never leave the house without my waterproofs – so, we wrapped up warm and started off along the track to find a good place to start our session. We worked our way through my ideas and some suggestions Kirsten had. I loved working with Aila (yellow) and Laggan (black) – these two dogs were absolute stars. Hats off to Kirsten for training them so well.
Anyway, I’ll stop rambling and show you some of my favourite images. Enjoy scrolling through these.
